Dear Esteemed Parents, Students, and Faculty,

As we draw the curtains on another academic year filled with growth, achievement, and cherished memories, I find myself reflecting on the collective journey we've undertaken together. It has been a year of resilience, collaboration, and triumphs, and I am immensely proud of each member of our school community.

To our dedicated faculty, your passion for education and unwavering commitment to nurturing the potential within each student have been the cornerstone of our success. Your tireless efforts have not only imparted knowledge but have also instilled values that will guide our students throughout their lives.

To our students, you have demonstrated exceptional dedication, curiosity, and a thirst for knowledge. Your achievements, both academic and personal, are a testament to your hard work and determination. As you move forward, carry the lessons you've learned here and let them be a source of inspiration in your future endeavors.

To our supportive parents, your partnership has been invaluable. Your trust, involvement, and encouragement have played a pivotal role in creating a nurturing environment for our students to thrive. Thank you for being an integral part of our school family.

As we bid farewell to our graduating students, we extend our heartfelt congratulations. You are now equipped with the knowledge, skills, and values to face the challenges that lie ahead. Remember, you are not just leaving a school; you are carrying with you the spirit of our community.

To everyone, as we embark on a well-deserved break, take the time to recharge and reflect. Cherish the moments of joy, celebrate achievements, and learn from challenges. Our school community is a family, and it is the collective effort of each member that makes it truly special.

Looking ahead, let us embrace the opportunities that the future holds with optimism and enthusiasm. I am confident that, together, we will continue to build a community that fosters excellence, empathy, and a lifelong love for learning.

Wishing you all a restful and rejuvenating break. See you next academic year!

Warm regards

Directress, Sr. Mazzarello Choi, SCG.

About Caritas

The Caritas schools run by the Caritas Sisters of Jesus, being part of the Salesian Family Congregation. We are following the teachings and values of Saint John Bosco, who founded the Salesian order with the mission of helping young people, especially those who are poor and vulnerable. The Salesian order has a long history of providing education and vocational training to disadvantaged youth around the world. Caritas Schools of Port Moresby, Papua New Guinea are the example of Caritas Sister of Jesus’s dedication.

The Caritas Schools’ ultimate purpose is to provide subsidised high-quality education to contribute and to offer affordable and quality education to those who may not have had access to it otherwise. The Caritas Schools are not just focused on education but also on making a positive impact on the surrounding communities.

History

The late Archbishop of Port Moresby, Sir Peter Korungku, invited the Caritas Sisters of Miyazaki to care for his diocese. The Monsignor Vincent Cimatti and Fr. Antonio Cavoli, Salesian of Don Bosco missionary priests founded this congregation of Caritas Sisters in Japan in 1937. The Archbishop asked the Caritas Sisters to build a school similar to Don Bosco Technical School so that the girls could learn skills that would enable them to become educated and productive members of society.

Thus, the Caritas Sisters from the Republic of South Korea received the idea and sent the Sisters to Port Moresby, PNG in 1992. They established the Caritas Girls Technical High School, which opened in 1995 for Grade 7 girls. The school is located at East Boroko, National Capital District. In 1999, the school received a new status to become Caritas Technical Secondary School. Opening the doors to receive and to serve Grade 8 leavers for Grade 9 and Grade 10 leavers from other schools except Pre 11 with upgrading to gain better results on some of academic subjects. In conjunction with the Education Department’s plan on the implementation of the revised 1-6-6 structure, Standard-Based curriculum, the school enrolled Grade 7 students in 2020, and in 2022 started enrolling grade 10 leavers from other schools to enrol for Grade 11 based on our entry requirements.

In response to the continuous demand for globally skilled individuals, the Caritas Sisters expanded their mission to tertiary education and established Caritas Business College. In 2021 Caritas Business College opened for the first batch of students. The College runs the two-year Diploma in Office Administration and Tourism Hospitality Management courses for male and female students all around from Papua New Guinea.

The school aims to achieve its dual objectives: to form good Christian values in the students according to the teachings and traditions of the Catholic Church to form honest and productive citizens of Papua New Guinea by training girls to be equipped with technical skills for future employment or to start their own small business that will benefit their family and country.
